Jossef, nine, can probably stay in the Netherlands

A nine-year-old Eritrean boy from Alkmaar is likely to be allowed to stay in the Netherlands now his mother has been given a residency permit, news agency ANP reports.

The boy, known as Jossef, has been in the Netherlands since he was a baby but faced deportation after his mother’s appeal for refugee status failed.
Last November, the local paper in Alkmaar, a market town north of Amsterdam, devoted much of its front page to an open letter to immigration minister Gerd Leers, urging him to allow the child to stay.
An estimated 200 children in the Netherlands face deportation to their country of origin after losing refugee status.
