Eight still in hospital after Amsterdam train crash

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Eight of the people injured when a commuter train collided with an intercity train in Amsterdam on Sunday are still in hospital, officials said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the figure was ten but two have since been sent home, reports Amsterdam council on its website.

One woman died and 117 were injured in the head-on crash.

The local authority health service on Tuesday sent a letter to all those involved in the collision telling them to get in touch if they have psychological problems, have any questions or need help.

"psychological problems", where as this is a concern it seems to have become the main and only concern in the Netherlands! I know people who have been physically injured at work and could get no treatment from Doctors until they accepted that they had psychological problems. Some of those injured will develop physical problem, which are never obvious at the time of injury, but may seriously effect their lives in years to come.

@Gerard: I agree, there is something seriously wrong here.

The Dutch health service authority makes it seem like Dutch people and the people living in the NL have an above normal amount of "psychological problems." Gerald is right that people would likely develop more physical problems later on in life that weren't realized shortly after such incidents.

I think a good motto for the NS (If they don't have one?) would be...

"Better late than dead"

These accidents just go to show that even a developed country like NL is far from perfect when it comes to safety standards,

All aboard? - <<prrrreeeeep!!<<
