Compulsory retirement for pilots not age discrimination: court

Airline KLM is not guilty of age discrimination for forcing pilots to retire between the ages of 56 and 60, a senior adviser to the High Court said on Friday.

At least 10 pilots are taking KLM to court because they want to continue working.
However, the advocate general has told the court compulsory retirement can be useful to generate better job opportunities for younger pilots and improve career prospects.
The advocate general’s recommendations are usually followed by the court when it makes its final ruling.
