Christian Democrat MPs plan to hold a string of meetings for members to discuss any agreement on slashing upwards of €9bn from government spending, the NRC reports on Tuesday afternoon.

The minority cabinet, made up of the VVD and CDA, is currently in negotiations with the anti-Islam PVV on finding cuts and new money to reduce the budget deficit to below 3%, in line with monetary union rules.
Five or six meetings will take place ‘in the short term’, senior party sources told the paper. ‘It goes without saying we will tell our members about the agreement,’ a party spokesman said, adding that more details still have to be worked out.
The meetings will also go ahead even if there is no agreement, the sources said. The CDA is also holding a party congress in six weeks time.
One of the options under consideration is a €1bn cut from the €4.6bn in development aid. Many CDA supporters are known to be unhappy about any more cuts in the aid budget. The cabinet has already reduced aid spending from 0.8% of GDP to 0.7%.
