Boys arrested following fire in historic windmill

Two boys aged 12 and 14 have been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed a windmill in the Frisian village of Burum.

The boys are part of a group of youths who were setting off fireworks in the village on Sunday evening, the Telegraaf reported.
The mill was one of the oldest in Friesland and characterised the village skyline, local mayor Jelle Boerema told the paper.

Named Windlust, the mill had a thatched roof and dated from 1787. The mill’s owners plan to rebuild it. The mill was insured for over €1m, the Volkskrant reported.
