Ajax closes in on title, four clubs fight it out for second place

Amsterdam football club Ajax came a step closer to clinching the premier division title at the weekend with a 2-0 win over FC Groningen.


The win means Ajax still have a six point lead over AZ of Alkmaar and Feyenoord, both of whom also had weekend wins. There are three matches left to play.
AZ struggled to beat VVV-Venlo 2-1 at home, while the Rotterdammers beat ADO Den Haag 1-2.
PSV Eindhoven beat NEC 2-1 to keep its hopes of European football next season alive and remains one point behind AZ and Feyenoord. Twente beat Excelsior 1-0 to stay level with PSV.
However, Heerenveen slipped back on the leading group after a 1-1 draw against Vitesse.
