70% of Dutch households have a car

There were 7.7 million cars in the Netherlands on January 1, 2011, of which 6.9 million are either privately owned or rented through a lease company, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

This means three out of 10 households do not have a car and one in eight children is growing up in a car-less family, the CBS said. Some 25% of Dutch households have two or more cars at their disposal.
