Tax office can’t collect €2bn a year

The tax office is unable to collect some €2bn in tax every year because firms or individuals go bankrupt or simply disappear, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

Over the past 10 years, the tax office has missed out on €15.6bn, the paper says. The Volkskrant bases its claim on its own research.
In order to recover the missing money, the tax office can sequester bank accounts and property. Over the past two years, for example, officials have laid claim to property worth over €80m, the paper says.
