School leaving exam pass rates get worse

The number of school leavers passing their final exams has fallen over the past five years, according to new figures from the education ministry.

In 2006, more than 93% of school leavers passed their exams, but last year that had fallen to 90.5%, the figures show. The drop applies across all forms of secondary education.
The pass rate is expected to drop still further this year when new standards for maths, English and Dutch are introduced.
