Queen Beatrix will no longer be involved in the formation of a new cabinet following a vote in parliament on Monday evening.

A large majority of MPs voted for the change which means in future parliamentarians will first debate a general election result and then decide who should negotiate between the parties, reports news agency ANP.
He or she will hold talks with the party leaders and report back to parliament which will then debate the next step.
The move follows rumblings among MPs that queen Beatrix went too far during the last cabinet formation in 2010. It is alleged she made every effort to keep the anti-immigration PVV out of the deal-making process.
Reactions among MPs have varied. Green party GroenLinks says it is good for democracy while right-wing liberals VVD and Christian fundamentalists ChristenUnie disagree. ‘The anti-monarchists have cooperated on a bad idea,’ ChristenUnie leader Arie Slob told ANP.
