More refugee centres to close

A further five refugee centres with 2,400 places are set to close down this year due to falling asylum seeker numbers, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

Last September, seven centres were shut with the loss of 2,600 places. It is not clear how many jobs will be affected in the latest closures, the paper says.
In 2011, the number of refugees coming to the Netherlands fell by 13% to almost 12,000. Some 16,000 people are currently living in refugee centres, down from a record 84,000 in 2001.
