Manslaughter, rape, child abuse can be prosecuted without time limit

A majority of MPs on Tuesday voted in favour of justice ministry plans to remove the deadline for prosecuting serious crimes such as rape, manslaughter and child abuse.

All crimes with a maximum jail time of 12 years or more will no longer be subject to a time limit. However, this will only apply to ‘new’ crimes and the vote will not clear the way for the prosecution of priests who abused children 20 years ago, Nos television said.
The statute of limitations for crimes with a life sentence, such as murder, was removed in 2006.
