Housing corporation watchdog to tighten supervision

The housing corporations’ watchdog Centraal Fonds Woningbouw is to toughen up its supervision of the corporations’ finances, its director Jan van der Moolen told Radio 1 news on Tuesday.

The move follows the announcement on Monday that at least 15 housing corporations are in financial difficulties and news of the problems at Rotterdam housing corporation Vestia because of speculation in large projects.
Van der Moolen told Radio 1 news his organisation’s priorities had lain elsewhere. ‘We should perhaps have been less naive,’ he said.
The organisations annual report says three large corporations are now under tighter supervision. One of them is Vestia. Van der Moolen would not say which the other two are.
