Dutch foreign minister opposes military intervention in Syria

Military intervention in Syria, where dozens of anti-government protestors have been killed, is not yet on the cards, Dutch foreign minister Uri Rosenthal is quoted as saying after a meeting of EU ministers in Copenhagen.

‘It is an interesting call. I am taking note of it, but it is not yet on the cards,’ Rosenthal is quoted as saying by the Telegraaf. The minister also said he does not favour arming opposition forces.
The international community has many options to help the opposition, such as international sanctions which ‘effectively’ hit the regime, Rosenthal said.
The Netherlands did send aircraft and manpower to support monitoring the UN’s weapons embargo against Libya last year.
