Construction sector scraps Saturday working plan

The construction sector has agreed to drop plans to treat Saturday as an ordinary working day in its latest pay deal, Nos television reported on Monday.

Instead, building firms have agreed to pay staff who have to work on Saturday a 50% supplement. Wages will also rise 1.75% this year, unions and management agreed.
The two sides have also agreed new measures to stop unfair competition between companies. These include fines for firms which do not abide by the nationally-agreed pay and conditions deal.
