Civil servants to lose special working rights

The government will soon be able to sack civil servants more easily if a parliamentary motion by the Christian Democrats and the left-wing liberals D66 is accepted.

The motion, which will be debated later on Tuesday and already has a majority in parliament, will change the legal position of civil servants and bring their working rights into line with those in the private sector, says the Telegraaf.
Among the changes is the right of civil servants to appeal against sacking four times.
With the large number of civil servants due to be cut because of government austerity measures, the Christian Democrats think the time is ripe to change working rights. It will make any move from the public to the private sector easier, says the Telegraaf.
