Catholic church abuse: inspectors knew minors were castrated

Monday 19 March 2012

Government inspectors were aware that minors were being castrated while being looked after in Catholic-run psychiatric institutions, local paper the Limburger reported on Monday.

The NRC reported on Saturday at least one boy under the age of 16 was castrated to 'help' his homosexual feelings while in Catholic church care in the 1950s.

Minutes of meetings held in the 1950s show inspectors were present when the castrations were openly discussed, the Limburger said. The minutes also showed directors of the institutions did not think parents needed to be involved in the decision-making process when minors were involved.

But there are indications at least 10 other boys were also castrated, the NRC reported on Saturday. The claims were not included in the Deetman report on sexual abuse within the Catholic church which was published at the end of last year.

The paper says the one confirmed case concerned a boy - Henk Heithuis - who reported being sexually abused by priests to the police in 1956. After giving evidence, he was placed in a Catholic-run psychiatric institution where he was then castrated because of his 'homosexual behaviour'.

The paper says the Deetman committee was informed about the castrations in writing but did not include mention of them in its report because 'there were few leads for further research'.

The Deetman committee was set up by the church itself in 2010 after the sexual abuse scandal broke. It reported in December having identified some 800 priests and monks who abused children in their care between 1945 and 1985.

In addition, church officials, bishops and lay people were aware of what was going on but failed to take action to protect children, the report said.

The NRC also said on Saturday the final Deetman report did not mention that a leading politician with the Catholic people's party KVP had tried to have prison sentences dropped against several priests accused of abusing children in 1958.

Vic Marijnen, who went on to become prime minister in 1963, was chairman of the children's home where Henk Heithuis and dozens of other children were abused until 1959.

MPs are now calling for a full parliamentary investigation into the abuse scandal because of concerns about the neutrality of the Deetman inquiry. Govenment MPs and the anti-immigration PVV have so far blocked calls for a formal inquiry, the NRC said on Monday.

Sadly no one will be punished for this abuse of children. The fact Wilders and some other supporters of this abuse are already at work trying to make sure the truth dose not get told proves my statement.

This is so incredibly depressing. No doubt the majority of MPs, and especially the PVV, would want to block an investigation... they wouldn't want to set a precedent for investigating their numerous incompetent and criminal acts.
Nothing can be said in defense of the Catholic church... they no longer have credibility.
This is utterly disgraceful.

unbelievable to hear that anyone wants to block an inquiry, the Irish experience of investigating clerical abuse and abuse in residential institutions has shown that only an official independent inquiry can establish the facts - and even then they faced difficulties in getting Church authorities, including the Vatican, to fully cooperate. Victims of such abuse deserve better!

So underage boys were castrated without parental consent, because the Catholic church would not accept homosexuality as a fact of life? This sounds rather insulting to God, considering Catholics are supposed to believe that God is omniscient, right?

It would have been more fitting to have castrated the priests, seeing as they are supposed to be celibate, therefore no sex-life. (?) Yet another good example here of how religion is constantly misused for power & control, not love!!

This is totally appalling and should be investigated. It is also appalling that the Government and the PVV have blocked calls for a formal inquiry.

Trouble is, castrating homosexual priests because, they were predatory abusers of young boys doesn't seem to make sense either. Why are 33% of Catholic Priests homosexual, the churches beliefs seem to be at odds with their sexuality. I just cannot figure it out, why join the Priesthood at all?

my guess is that most men, self included, would rather die than lose those parts. as for any person or organization that does such a thing (the last 'therapeutic castration' by the evil psychiatric thugs here in the 'land of the free' was at a mental hospital in north carolina in 1979), should be jailed forever after and their church-state-filed disbanded or overthrown immediately.

despite christ saying "treat the least of thy brethren as thou wouldst treat me." his 'followers' have burned witches at the stake until just recently and it was preferred to have two gay men at her feet hence the term 'faggots,' 'a bundle of sticks... unless, that is, these could afford a sizable 'indulgence'

This should be brought out in the open...and what about the abused silent ones who had no one to compalin to...

This story is utter nonsense. Doctors, surgeons, reputable medical professionals and not the equivalent of back-street abortionists, castrated young boys to counter homosexual, or ecclesiastically feared, homosexual tendences?

Let's get real. It's open season on the Catholic Church else this would never, ever have been given the Oxygen of publicity.

It says the priests were accused of abuse when a politician tried to have prison sentences against them dropped. Were they not convicted? It says Heithuis was castrated because of his homosexual behavior. Who were his victims? Why did no one come forward with this before? Do the documents show aging, or are they fresh, like Obama's birth certificate? It is convenient for the U.S. Leftists to find this now, when they're trying to shut down Catholic health care. Very suspicious timing.

Why is this being investigated? The statute of limitations (20 years) ran out years and years ago. -- What a waste of taxpayer's money to investigate a case for which no one can even be brought to trial!

By mike | 21 March 2012 8:26 AM

Great stuff Mary! These evil socialists are attacking poor defenceless priests for carrying out God's work - sexually abusing and then castrating a highly dangerous fifteen year old boy. And all because they want to steal our money and give it to all Obama's lazy friends!

By John | 21 March 2012 12:00 PM

Mary, I think you need to read the story a bit more closely. This took place in the Netherlands, not the US, so US "leftists" had nothing to do with it. Neither did President Obama. You are paranoid, ignorant and an embarrassment to other Americans.

Any mention of child abuse these days is centred around the Catholic church. for abuse cases dating back to the 1950's and 1980's. But whom is responsible for the following? Last year saw another rise in the number of reports made to the child pornography hotline. In total, there were 12,542 reports, over 3,000 more than in 2010?
In 2011, 4,660 reports of videos or photos of child sex abuse were passed on to the police. In 2010, the number was just 1,260. And, 181,000 complaints of child abuse. The hotline says all the child pornography was on Dutch servers, with people mostly making it available via free uploading services. This makes it easy to exchange large amounts of video data?
