11 arrested as Peru-Netherlands smuggling route is busted

Eleven people have been arrested in an operation to close down a cocaine-smuggling route between Peru and the Netherlands, news agency ANP reports.

The investigation focused on two airline workers based at Schiphol who removed the drugs from suitcases brought into the country by couriers.

Eight of the 11 people arrested are Dutch, one is from Cape Verde and two have 'no known fixed abode', the ANP report said. They range in age from 25 to 54.
