Tension mounts in premier division after PSV, AZ lose

Dutch premier league leader PSV was beaten 3-0 by mid-placed FC Groningen in this weekend’s football action.

The number two, AZ of Alkmaar, failed to move into the top spot, losing 3-0 to FC Utrecht and allowing the other main challengers to catch up.
PSV trainer Fred Rutten said he was shocked by the Eindhoven side’s performance. ‘We did not show at all that we wanted to be champion,’ he said.
Agressive
AZ’s coach Gertjan Verbeek said his team was ‘not aggressive and not focused’. ‘I do not know why, it must be in their heads,’ he said. ‘I’ve studied brain functions but I am not a brain surgeon,’ RTL news quoted him as saying.
Ajax, who had seemed to be out of the title race, beat NEC 4-1 and is now back in with a chance. Twente too kept up the pace with the top end as they clinched a 4-1 win at seventh placed Vitesse of Arnhem.
Five points now separate the top six teams. PSV and AZ are on 45 points, Heerenveen is third with 43, Twente has 43, Feyenoord 41 and Ajax 40.
