Severe weather warning for western provinces, heavy snow forecast

The KNMI weather bureau on Friday issued a code orange severe weather warning for western provinces saying heavy snow is on its way.

The KNMI expects up to five centimetres of snow to fall but in some places it could be as much as 10cm. Most snow will be in coastal provinces but most parts of the country will be affected by icy conditions on the roads.
The snow front hit the northern provinces early on Friday morning and is now moving slowly southwards. The snow fall will last for several hours, the KNMI said.
Once the snow has fallen it will remain very cold and dry, with heavy frosts at night. The weekend will again be clear and sunny. The KNMI expects the cold weather to continue until at least next Friday, when temperatures may rise above freezing during the day.
