Pressure mounts on VU university over Islamic academic

An British expert in Islamic law who has reportedly described Jews as ‘the enemies of God, and the descendants of apes and pigs’ should be banned from the Netherlands, ChristenUnie MPs said on Tuesday.

Sheikh Haitham al-Haddad, who sits on Britain’s Islamic Sharia Council, is due to attend a symposium organised by the Islamic student association at the VU University in Amsterdam on Friday.
But ChristenUnie MP Joel Voordewind has urged the government not to let al-Haddad enter the country because of his anti-Semitic views. The Israel information centre CIDI has also called on the VU to drop the invitation because of al-Haddad’s views.
Earlier this month, the London School of Economics cancelled a speech by al-Haddad following complaints from Jewish students.
