More than half of diplomatic speeding fines go unpaid

Almost 60% of the speeding tickets picked up by foreign diplomats in the Netherlands last year have not yet been paid, according to new figures from the government’s fine collection service.

In total, members of the diplomatic corps were given 4,110 fines last year. In 2010, the non-payment rate was 55%. The average fine was €60, and the outstanding fines amount to some €127,000.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry told news agency ANP Dutch diplomats abroad are required to pay traffic fines under their code of conduct.
