Dutch, Swiss birdwatchers kidnapped in the Philippines

A 52-year-old Dutch birdwatcher, his Swiss travelling companion and their guide have been kidnapped in the Philippines, the AD reports on Wednesday.

Ewold Horn and Lorenzo Vinciguerra were watching birds on the Tawi Tawi island group when they were attacked by five heavily-armed men and forced into a speedboat. Another guide managed to get away and alert the authorities.
The Dutch foreign affairs ministry advises against travel to Tawi Tawi and other islands in the region because of the presence of radical Islamic militants. It is not known if they are behind the kidnapping, the AD says.
