Dutch population grew by 70,000 last year

Thursday 16 February 2012

The Dutch population reached 16.7 million in January 2012, an increase of 70,000 on 2011, as more EU citizens moved to the Netherlands, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

In total, 160,000 people moved to the Netherlands last year, up marginally on 2010. Of these, 40% came from another EU country, the CBS said.

At the same time, 134,000 people left the Netherlands, up 13,000 on a year ago. One third of those leaving is a second-generation immigrant, the CBS said.

The birth rate was relatively stable in 2011 at 179,000, as was the death rate at 136,000.

Just what the NL needs, more people on an already over crowded land, it's a red/green disaster, but at least it's what the political elite & EU political class wants.

Bad news for the extremists who seek to fuel hatred and poisoning coexistence.
Studying statistics on GDP growth in our country, occurs coincidentally, that the highest growths in our GDP (ie, increasing our wealth and welfare), occur precisely in periods of greatest increase of foreigners resident population.
In short, facts, intelligence and economy are often at odds with fanaticism.

Phil, how can you possibly claim there is a political movement towards immigration in the country?
A net increase of 27 thousand after increase as a result of birth/deaths is hardly a disaster. Especially since whole regions of this counrty are shrinking and would love to get some more people.

It is indeed exactly what The Netherlands needs: skilled labour to meet the current deficit in the country. Manufacturers, larger corporations and SMEs have given ministers a joint report reasserting the increasing need for foreign labour in The Netherlands as the internal market does not suffice.

Do you think immigrants move here on a whim, Phil? Should I divorce my Dutch husband and leave to make you happy?

You first, Phil. Since you're so concerned about overcrowding.
