Dutch MPs back Greek rescue plan

As expected, a large majority of Dutch MPs on Tuesday gave their support to European leaders’ new €130bn rescue package for Greece.

‘It is thin and a bit wobbly, but it is better than nothing,’ Labour’s finance spokesman Ronald Plasterk said during the debate.
In particular, Plasterk said Europe should take steps to help the Greek economy grow. For example, the money spent on farm subsidies could be used instead to help Greek youngsters find jobs, Plasterk, a candidate for the Labour leadership, suggested.
The Liberal democrats (D66) and left-wing greens GroenLinks also threw their weight behind the cabinet, ensuring majority support.
The minority coalition’s alliance partner, the anti-Islam PVV, voted against the plan. It believes Greece should be thrown out of the eurozone. The Socialist Party, currently riding high in the opinion polls, also voted against.
