Douglas will not play for Oranje at European championships

Twente defender Douglas Franco Teixeira, who gave up his Brazillian nationality to become Dutch last year, will not turn out for the Netherlands at this year’s European football championships.

The player, known by his first name, has decided not to ask the world football body Fifa for special dispensation to play for Oranje. Under Fifa rules, he must have lived in the Netherlands for five years, but will not pass that deadline until August.
Douglas and his business advisor have decided there is no point in asking Fifa for permission because the organisation has not made exceptions in similar cases in the past, Nos television reported.
The European Championships take place in Ukraine and Poland in June.
