Cleaners continue their strike action

Around 200 cleaners spent Monday night in the Utrecht university building on the Uithof as part of their continuing industrial action for better working conditions.

The cleaners were joined by hundreds of colleagues later on Tuesday for a protest rally. Cleaning staff have been taking industrial action for the past eight weeks in a series of rolling strikes around the country.
Later on Tuesday, they will hand in a petition at the headquarters of ING bank in Amsterdam, asking companies who employ cleaning companies to push for better working conditions for cleaners.
The FNV Bondgenoten union, which represents cleaners, is campaigning for better sick pay and more time to complete the work. Employers argue the demands are unrealistic.
‘Cleaners feel they are supported by a majorty of the population and will continue their industrial actions,’ the union told the Nos news site.
