André Kuipers stays in space for another six weeks

Tuesday 14 February 2012

André Kuipers will stay on the international space station ISS for six weeks longer than expected, and return to earth on July 1, the astronaut writes on his blog.

Kuipers was due back on May 16 but the Russians have cancelled the flight following the discovery of a leak. A new rocket is being prepared but this will take nearly two months.

The astronaut was launched into space for the journey to ISS on December 21 from the space base at Baikonur in Kazachstan.
