Wages rose less than inflation in 2011

Wages in centrally-agreed pay deals rose by an average 1.3% last year, while inflation was as high as 2.3%, according to national statistics office CBS on Monday.

Nevertheless, pay rises did go up throughout the year, averaging 1.1% in the first quarter and 1.5% in the final three months.
The average pay rise is in line with developments in 2010 when inflation was lower, the CBS said.
Costs
Actual wage costs rose 1.7%, due to an increase in employer contributions and charges. The cost of civil service wages rose the least, with an average increase of 0.5%.
The government has made keeping civil service pay in check a central part of its economic policy.
