Questions in parliament about Eurovision song festival

Socialist party MP Jasper van Dijk is planning to raise the issue of Dutch participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in parliament because, he says, it has ‘been hijacked’ by television producer John de Mol.

De Mol has agreed to organise the Dutch entry this year after the Netherlands failed to qualify for the finals for the seventh year in a row.
But Van Dijk is angry that five of the six contestants are allied to De Mol’s television talent show The Voice of Holland and the sixth is allied to public broadcaster Tros.
‘This is a John de Mol party, not a party for everyone,’ the MP is quoted as saying.
De Mol told the Volkskrant: ‘I am surprised that politicians are busy with this subject when the entire country is heading for a crisis.’
