Outsider Christian Kist wins world darts title

Christian Kist completed what the BBC called ‘a remarkable Lakeside debut’ by winning the BDO world darts title on Sunday.

Kist, 25, entered the tournamant as a ranked outsider and beat Tony O’Shea 7-5 to win the £100,000 (€120,000) prize. According to the BBC, this is 50 times his career earnings to date.
Kist, a road builder by trade, is the third Dutchman to take the title. Raymond van Barneveld won in 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005, while Jelle Klassen was champion in 2006.
