‘Home miles’ plan to free up rented accommodation

Nijmegen council is considering introducing ‘home miles’ and ‘love rewards’ for people in rented accommodation, the Telegraaf reports.

The ‘home miles’ would be given to people who are active in their street or neighbourhood and would give them an advantage if they wanted to move to another rented property.
The same would apply to the ‘love rewards’, which would be given to couples who decide to move in together, thereby freeing up two homes. They, too, would get a new rented home more quickly.
The council thinks these moves would free up the rented accommodation market and give starters and young people more chance to find a home.
A decision on the plan will be taken later this year.
