European influx boosts Dutch population

The number of people moving to or leaving the Netherlands rose again last year, the national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

In total, a record 160,000 people made the Netherlands their home, up 6,000 on 2010. The growth is mainly due to the arrival of people from other EU states.
The number of people leaving was up 12,000 to 133,000, the CBS said.
Some 180,000 babies were born last year and 135,000 people died. So in total, the population grew by 72,000, the CBS said. The Dutch population is currently around 16.7 million.
