Dutch farm product exports rise 9% to €73bn

The export of Dutch meat, dairy products, fruit, vegetables and flowers rose some 9% last year, making the Netherlands the second biggest farm produce exporter in the world, according to new figures from farming economic institute Lei and the national statistics office CBS.

Only the US exports more farm produce, the statistics, quoted by website nu.nl, show.
The figures were presented at the annual farming trade fair Grune Woche in Berlin. Germany is the Netherlands’ biggest farm produce export market.
Dutch dairy and fruit and veg imports reached just over €48bn last year, meaning a trade surplus of €24.5bn, the institutes said. Exports of cucumbers and tomatoes in particular were hit in 2011 because of a food safety scare.
