Doeschka Meijsing dies at 64

Writer Doeschka Meijsing died on Monday evening at her home in Amsterdam of complications following a serious operation. She was 64.


Meijsing wrote novels, essays, poems and short stories. Her debut book, The Cockerels and Other Stories, was published in 1974 and her breakthrough came in 2000 with The Second Man, which was nominated for the Ako literature prize.
Her last novel, About Love, appeared in 2008 and went on to win the Ako literature prize, the F Borderwijk prize and the Opzij literature prize.
