Bankruptcy rate unchanged, but hospitality industry hard hit

Some 9,500 companies went bankrupt in the Netherlands last year, almost unchanged from 2010, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

But the number of restaurants, bars and cafes going bankrupt rose 28% to 306. However, hospitality industry association Horeca Nederland said the figures are not alarming. ‘It is an increase of 66 companies in a sector with 43,000 firms,’ a spokesman said.
Fewer communications and transport firms went bust last year than in 2010.
