Alpine cyclist ordered to repay injury damages

A 64-year-old man who placed photographs of himself cycling in the Alps on social media website Hyves has been ordered to pay back €75,000 in compensation he was given for a work-related accident in 2003, the Telegraaf reports.

The paper says Johan Minkjan, from Geesteren in Twente, has been told by the courts to repay the money to insurance company Aegon because it considers he is able to work.
According to media reports, Minkjan owned a paving tile company but received a serious head injury in an industrial accident in 2003. In 2005 he underwent heart surgery and was told to take up sport.
Minkjan told the paper he needs to take painkillers every day and undertook the cycling challenges for charity. He is to appeal against the court decision, local paper Tubantia said.
