Supermarkets agree higher youth wages

Unions and employers in the supermarket sector have agreed a new two-year pay deal, with an extra increase for young shop workers.

Adults will get a 3.8% pay rise spread over two years, while younger staff will get 6.8%. Some three-quarters of supermarket staff are under the age of 23.
The new pay rates will also apply to youngsters who are employed via staffing and payrolling agencies.
