Socialist party leader Emile Roemer tops public vote

Emile Roemer, leader of the Socialist Party, has topped a popularity poll organised by television current affairs show EenVandaag.


Roemer took 24% of the vote in a poll of 37,000 people. Prime minister Mark Rutte was second with 19%, followed by finance minister Jan Kees de Jager on 14%.
Earlier, Roemer was second in the parliamentary press vote for politician of the year and in Maurice de Hond’s opinion poll. Rutte topped both those polls.
