Official house and office property values to be made public

Official property valuation registers are to be made public so that home owners can get a better idea of the value of their own homes and compare prices with others in the neighbourhood, junior finance minister Frans Weekers said in a briefing to MPs on Tuesday.

The official valuation – known as the woz value – is used to determine property taxes (ozb) and water charges, as well as the fee all home owners pay known as the eigenwoningforfait.
‘For many households, the way the woz valuation is worked out … is like magic,’ Weekers said. He also hopes the switch to public registers will reduce the number of complaints made by home owners about the official valuation.
Before submitting draft legislation to parliament, the minister first plans to ask the privacy watchdog CBP for its recommendations.
