No Uefa probe into Lyon football win which scuppered Ajax

European football body Uefa said on Thursday it would not be carrying out an investigation into Olympique Lyon’s 7-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb, which put Amsterdam side Ajax out of the Champions League.

Uefa said its betting fraud detection system had not detected any irregular patterns ‘around yesterday’s games or their outcome that would justify any inquiry on that front.’
Rare
Ajax coach Frank de Boer is quoted by the Telegraaf as saying he would not object to an investigation: ‘7-1 rarely happens at this level of the game… but if the match was given away, then there must be action, although it would be very hard to prove.’
Ajax lost 0-3 to Real Madrid, after having two goals disallowed. But the Amsterdammers’ fate was sealed when Olympique Lyon beat Dinamo Zagreb 7-1, putting the French side ahead on goal differences.
‘It’s indescribable; who could have thought this would happen?,’ Kenneth Vermeer, Ajax goalkeeper, told Uefa.com. ‘We knew we might lose to Madrid but we didn’t imagine Lyon would win by such a margin.’

Wink

However, footage of the fifth goal appears to show Dinamo Zagreb defender Domagoj Vida winking at Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis and he also gives him the thumbs up just after he picks the ball out of the net.
This has given rise to suspicions that the match may have been fixed.
The Telegraaf also says the French gambling monitoring board has launched an investigation into the Lyon win.
