Financial services regulator warns comparison websites to come clean
Wednesday 21 December 2011
The financial services regulator AFM has warned websites which compare difference insurance and financial products to come clean to consumers about how they are funded and how reach their conclusions.
At the moment there is a lack of transparency about how the sites operate and how they make their money, the AFM said. The organisation has looked at 40 sites which compare financial products.
Sites have been told they have to publish information about their aims, operations and funding on their websites or face further action from the AFM. The organisation declined to name the worst offenders.
However, a spokeswoman for the organisation told television programme RTLZ it is a coincidence that the report is published a day after insurance giant Achmea bought insurance comparison website Independer.
