Employers call for pension premium freeze, modest pay rises

Employers are set to call for a freeze in pension premiums and only modest pay rises in next year’s pay talks, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

The paper bases its claims on a leaked internal document from employers’ association VNO-NCW, which appears to take advantage of a union conflict over the agreement.
Earlier this year, employers, unions and the government agreed a new pension deal which paves the way for an increase in the pension age from 65 to 67.
In addition, much of the fine-tuning is to be carried out on a sector by sector basis.
Opposition
However, two of the biggest unions oppose the deal and this makes a national position on pensions unlikely from a union point of view, the employers’ document points out.
Some 200 new pay and conditions agreements (cao) need to be decided in the coming months, including the construction sector, cleaning sector and hospital workers.
The FNV trade union federation has already called for a 2.5% across-the-board pay rise.
