Dutch woman and Belgian man tie in national dictation test

For the first time in its 21-year history, the Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal, or great Dutch dictation, has joint winners – one Dutch, one Flemish.

Dutch organisational advisor Marret Kramer and Flemish newsreader Freek Braeckman came joint first in the competition with four mistakes. It is also the first time a famous person has been among the winners.
The televised national dictation test has been held since 1990 and is compiled by a different known writer every year.
This year’s text was written by Arnon Grunberg, who said he wanted to produce a reasonable dictation without too many difficult words.
This year’s joint first place means Belgium is still ahead of the Netherlands, with 12 wins to 11.
