Amsterdam to investigate modern art museum revamp problems

Amsterdam city council will carry out an inquiry into the renovations at the city’s modern art Stedelijk museum once the project is completed next summer, council executive Carolien Gehrels said on Wednesday.

The inquiry will look at how the project came to take three years longer than planned and overspend its budget by €20m.
The museum has been closed for the past 8.5 years. One reason for the delay is the bankruptcy of main building company Midreth.
The city’s Rijksmuseum was closed in 2003 for rebuilding work and is also set to reopen next year after countless delays and budget overspends.
