Ten of world’s top 15 chess players to head for Holland

Next year’s Tata Steel chess tournament in the seaside resort of Wijk aan Zee will be attended by 10 of the world’s top 15 players, Nos television reported on Tuesday.

Those signed up for the 74th edition of the event include Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian and defending champion Hikaru Nakamura of the US.
The organisers say the line-up is the strongest in the event’s history.
The event was started by a group of steel workers at the then-Hoogovens plant in 1938 and went international in 1946. Many now consider it to be the most important chess tournament in the world.
