Occupy Amsterdam should wind up, say local VVD councillors

The camp which has sprung up outside the former stock exchange in the centre of Amsterdam as part of the global Occupy movement should be cleared away at the end of the autumn holidays, local VVD councillor Robert Flos told reporters on Friday.

He wants mayor Eberhard van der Laan to persuade the campers to move on next week but emphasised he did not want to see a police-led eviction.
‘It would not be good if there is a permanent anti-globalist camp in the city,’ Vos said. ‘Once the holidays are over, it is high time to end the Amsterdam Occupy campaign so that the square can be used for other activities again.’
There are now around 100 tents on the square. A spokesman for the group told reporters that they planned to ask the mayor for permission to remain.
