More jobless must work in horticulture, says minister

Local councils and job centres have not done enough to make sure the unemployed take up jobs in the horticulture sector, social affairs minister Henk Kamp told MPs on Wednesday.


Before the summer, Kamp imposed a partial ban on seasonal workers from Bulgaria and Romania, saying Dutch jobless people should pick fruit and vegetables instead.
However, by mid-September only 874 people had taken up a job in the market gardening sector, Kamp told MPs.
