Minister clears way for independent corporate pension boards

Social affairs minister Henk Kamp is to allow corporate pension funds to appoint external experts to their management boards, website nu.nl reports on Monday.

Corporate funds will have two options: a board made up entirely of experts or a board which combines external experts with union, employer and pensioner representatives.
A fund which is run only by external executives will in turn be monitored by a board representing the various interest groups – unions, employers and pensioners.
The increasingly complex nature of the financial markets makes it necessary to involve more experts in the management of pension funds, the minister says in a briefing to MPs.
