Christian Democrats back deportation of Angolan youth

Christian Democrat MPs are unanimously backing the decision of immigration minister Gerd Leers to deport an 18-year-old Angolan boy who has lived here since 2003.

The party’s immigration spokesman Raymond Knops told reporters after a meeting of the parliamentary party that they all supported Leers’ decision not to give Mauro Manuel a residency permit.
However, a student visa, which Mauro would have to request himself, would be a real option, Knops said.
Vote
MPs are due to debate Leers’ decision from 16.00 on Thursday afternoon although a vote may not be held until next week.
The CDA holds its annual conference this weekend and according to the Volkskrant, the party’s position on Mauro will be high on the agenda.
In particular it is likely to highlight many members’ continuing unease about the minority coalition’s alliance with the anti-immigration PVV, the paper says.
